How the excise is calculated
Hacienda charges excise on the vehicle’s “taxable price in Puerto Rico”, on this scale (Act 186-2014). For used cars Hacienda sets that price from its own tables, and it is usually lower than what you paid, so this calculator shows the maximum. SURI gives the exact figure from the VIN.
